Characteristics of Lithium Ion Polymer Batteries

According to the different electrolyte materials of lithium ion battery, lithium ion batteries can be divided into liquid lithium ion battery (such as 18650 li-ion battery) and  lithium ion polymer battery ( such as 3.7v lipo battery). The cathode and anode electrode materials of lithium polymer battery are the same as  those of liquid lithium ion battery. The main difference lies in the different electrolytes. Lithium ion battery is made of the  liquid electrolyte and  lithium polymer battery instead of solid polymer electrolyte. This polymer can be dry state or colloidal,  most of battery is made of gel polymer electrolyte at present.

 Lithium ion polymer  batteries can be divided into three categories:

(1) Solid polymer electrolyte of lithium ion batteries:The electrolyte is a mixture of polymer and cobaltate, which has low ionic conductivity at room temperature.

(2) GEL polymer electrolyte of  lithium ion battery: That is, the addition of plasticizer and other additives in the solid polymer electrolyte, so as to improve the ionic conductivity, so that the battery can be used at room temperature.

(3) Cathode material of lithium polymer battery:The conductive polymer is used as the cathode material, and its specific energy is 3 times that of the existing lithium ion battery.


Due to the use of solid electrolyte instead of liquid electrolyte, compared with liquid lithium ion battery,  lithium polymer battery has a thin, arbitrary area and arbitrary shape etc.The lithium polymer battery will not produce leakage and combustion explosion and other safety problems. Thus making battery case with aluminum-plastic composite film, which can improve the whole the specific capacity of the battery; lithium ion polymer batteries can be used as cathode materials of polymer, the mass ratio of energy than liquid lithium-ion battery current is increased by more than 50%. In addition, the  lithium ion polymer battery has higher working voltage, charge and discharge cycle life and so on. Based on the above advantages, lithium ion polymer batteries is regarded as the next generation of lithium ion batteries.
